At the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Media Lab, Pranav Mistry after the portable interface Sixthsense yet again created the first truly invisible computer mouse. They have created an invisible mouse using infrared laser beam and an infrared camera. This infrared technology will capture hand movements which will be translated into computer commands accurately. Basically, the laser illuminates parts of the hand that are touching the surface of the table. The camera tracks these illuminated parts for the  software to  sort out what kind of commands are being sent  from  the simple movement and multi-touch gestures.

What’s more amazing about this invisible mouse is that it only takes $20 to build one. So, even if it’s not still out in the market for everyone to get a piece, well, to experience having an invisible mouse, it would be safe to assume that it will be affordable and feasible.

The Mouseless is the brainchild of Pranav along with Patti Maes and Liyan Chang.  These inventors is also working on its improvements to the recognition and tracking algorithms with the aim of building up an expanded command library. This may in the future lead to more complex gesture recognitiont which could  give this Mouseless additional advantages over a hardware mouse since the number of functions handled by it is only limited.

Since it is for the kitchen, Demy is designed to be rugged and could withstand spills of ingredients and other liquids. You don’t clean your hands of food stains before use either as it just wipes off with a damp cloth. There is also a built in timers included and weight converters to make it easier for you to measure just the right amounts you need. Demy can be viewed either upright or at lower angled tilt since the screen flips around automatically when turned. You can also choose from three font sizes. However, the process of uploading recipes to Demy is a long process of copy and paste from the website you found your recipe to the key ingredient site. This could be time consuming to some. Demy is requires holding the on-off button down until it beeps to turn it off completely otherwise it will just turn to “sleep” consuming battery still.
